Rifle Brigade Brooch for sale in aid of Care for casualties

The widow of a most distinguished Rifle Brigade and Royal Green Jacket officer has decided that to help raise finance for the worthy cause Care for Casualties (C4C), she would donate her Regimental Rifle Brigade Brooch for sale and all proceeds would be donated to the cause. The brooch seen above was purchased second hand in the 1960s by her husband. I am of the opinion that the brooch was commissioned circa 1902-1913 the evidence for this are the battle honours as shown on the brooch.

Garrard the Crown Jewellers who I have telephoned agree with my findings.

The brooch is 4cm in depth and just over 3cm in width, it is covered in antique diamonds, the battle honours are Waterloo, Peninsula, on the laurel wreath left Alma, Inkerman, Sevastopol, on the right Lucknow, these four being in the Crimea. Then Ashantee (1873-74) and South Africa (1899-02) bracketed dates are mine.

The brooch is beautiful and in my opinion worthy of a sum that reflects not only this but also its historical background. Just send me an offer, I will reply to those who respond to this appeal with updates. The appeal will close on 1 April.

The successful purchaser will then be informed of the name of the donor and will make out a cheque to Care for Casualties and forward it to me at Highbury, Fivefields Road, Winchester SO23 0QS.

With my best wishes and I trust you will support this most generous gift to C4C and also support the aims of Care for Casualties.

Ron
