Rifleman Jamie Gunn 1 RIFLES - Afghanistan 25 February 2009
Rifleman Jamie Gunn was killed in action when the vehicle in which he and two other Riflemen of his OMLT were travelling was struck by an IED on the highway east of Gereshk on Wednesday 25 February 2009. He was on patrol with his OMLT with whom he had been operating since April 2008.
"Formed in February 2007, the first three years of the history of The Rifles has been marked by hard and challenging service of which we are proud, but it has come at a considerable cost. And now, as we pause for breath following this period of over three years of continuous operational deployment, we must look to the future. With 54 men Killed in Action and over 290 seriously wounded, we have sustained significantly more casualties than any other regiment so we must now look forward to ensure that we can fulfil our responsibility as a family regiment to be the first line of support for all our family members. It is with this in mind that we have launched our Care for Casualties Appeal.
Through supporting this appeal you will enable the Regiment to respond when called upon to do so, to the needs of the bereaved, the injured and their families, all of whom have served and suffered, and it is now our turn to serve them."
