Team Rifles - Snowdonia Marathon

Team Rifles are at it again and plan to take on the challenge of the Snowdonia marathon once more.  After promising myself last year that the Snowdon marathon was my first and last marathon here we are only a few days away from doing it all again. This charity is something that means a lot to myself and the other runners in the team.

Although this year we have left our fund raising late we hope to make the £3800 pound difference that we fell short of last years £10000 target. Whatever we make will be a massive help to all our chosenmen and enable C4C to give them the care, help & support they deserve.

So please give what you can and if you are able to support on the day please do

There has been a few name changes to last years team due to a few injuries (weakness) the team is as listed below.

Danny McCreith, Gaz Case, Neil Young & Mark Whitby.

Rifles Band Concert - Colchester

A concert by the Band and Bugles of The Rifles is to be held in Saint Botolph’s Church, Colchester on Sunday 12th December at 3pm in aid of The Rifles’ Charities ‘Care for Casualties’ campaign.

Since antecedent Regiments of The Rifles have been regularly stationed in Colchester since 1742 it is entirely appropriate for this Concert to be held here, even though the territory is now firmly held by the Paras!

For anyone addicted to the sound of Band and Bugles this will be an unmissable occasion and for anyone else it would be an unforgettable experience, for a very important cause to raise £1million in 2010 for the long term care of The Rifles’ casualties and their families.  As tickets at £12.50 will be limited to 350 it could be a good idea to make a reservation (or a donation!) early by writing to: Valentine West (Official Promoter – The Rifles Charities), Hall Cottage, Rectory Lane, Abberton, Colchester, CO5 7NJ (preferably with SAE!) or by calling him on 01206 735389 or by e-mailing vfwest@btopenworld.com

Bedford School, Brigadier Tim Radford DSO OBE, Afghanistan Lecture 7pm

Brigadier Radford commanded 19 Light Brigade during the offensive “Panther’s Claw” in Helmand Province of Afghanistan in the Summer of 2009. During this operation over 10,000 men, women and their equipment came under his command. Bedford School has a long and distinguished link with the British Armed Forces. In recent years significant number of Old Bedfordians have served their country in both Iraq and Afghanistan.  This event  will certainly focus the mind on this very important day in our calendar and ensure current conflicts are recognised as well as past. The lecture will not just appeal to those who are interested in the military, but equally those interested to learn more about the qualities required of our leaders today in high tempo operations. The lecture will be followed by a Q & A session.  For more information please contact: nthompson@bedfordschool.org.uk
